Ever get the feeling you’re not quite as in control as you like to think? Yeah, you’re not alone. Most business owners walk around proudly showing off their “results” and “actions”, waving them about like a badge of honour. Sales figures, KPIs, team performance stats… all the shiny stuff floating nicely on the surface.
But here’s the thing. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. And if you don’t start looking at what’s lurking underneath, you’re probably going to hit it. Hard.
See, underneath all that surface-level noise is where the real stuff sits. Skills. Beliefs. Values. Identity. Purpose. You know, the actual stuff that runs the show while you’re busy rearranging the deckchairs up top.
If your business isn’t growing the way you want… if your team feels like they need constant babysitting… if you’re quietly wondering why it all feels harder than it should be… maybe it’s time to stop polishing the surface and start digging into what’s underneath.
Spoiler alert: Your results are just a mirror of your current beliefs.
Yep, I said it. Your business isn’t stuck because the market’s tough, or because “good people are hard to find”, or because “customers just don’t get it”. Your business is stuck because your beliefs are stuck.
Beliefs like:
- “I have to do everything myself or it won’t be done properly.”
- “I can’t charge more, people won’t pay it.”
- “No one works as hard as I do.”
Recognise any of those little gems? Thought you might.
Here’s the kicker: those beliefs aren’t true. They’re just comfortable. They’re old stories your brain keeps telling because it’s easier than writing a new one. And while you’re clinging to them, your business is politely matching them, day after day.
Want a different business? Then you’re going to need different beliefs.
Now, I’m not saying it’s easy. Digging around under the waterline can be messy. Uncomfortable. A bit like opening that drawer at home you’ve been pretending doesn’t exist.
But… it’s where the gold is. It’s where real change happens. It’s where you stop firefighting and start leading.
And guess what? You don’t have to do it alone. In fact, you’d be crazy to try. Because here’s another lovely little blind spot: it’s almost impossible to spot your own blind spots. Funny that, isn’t it?
If any of this is hitting a nerve (and let’s be honest, it probably should), why not have a chat with someone who’s not afraid to call it how it is?
Drop me a message. We’ll book in a complimentary coaching session, have a proper nose around what’s really going on under your iceberg, and maybe even smash through a few of those old beliefs while we’re at it.
Or you know… you could just carry on polishing the surface and hoping it magically sorts itself out.
Your call.
(But deep down, you already know what needs to happen, don’t you?)
